The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Love. When Christ had descended upon the Earth, He was the incarnation of God’s ethical qualities. The Spirit, therefore, is Christ in His spiritual sense. This means that the Spirit is not only an ethical Spirit just as God is an ethical being, but also ethical in character as well. This comes to us through influences of spiritual realities, which are the revelation of God’s earthly life that are centered in Him.
The Holy Spirit comes to us through the expression of Truth and Love that are evident in not only God’s teachings but the work of Jesus Christ as well. Christ’s life itself was essentially a manifestation of the Spirit of Love. It showed the truths that concerned God and his people as well as serving as an inspiration to their lives. |
With the ascension of Christ unto heaven, it was promised that soon another Paraclete would descend upon us and would act as our guide, “He shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with you for ever. The Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, nor knoweth Him: but you shall know him; because He shall abide with you, and shall be in you.” (S. John XIV. 16,17)
"When He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will teach you all the truth. For He shall not speak of Himself; but what things soever He shall hear, He shall speak; and the things that are to come He shall shew you. He shall glorify Me; because He receive of Mine, and shall show it to you. All things whatsoever the Father hath, are mine. Therefore I said, He shall receive of Mine and shew it to you.” (S. John XVI. 13-16) The above excerpts are taken from the Holy Bible. In them, Jesus himself tells us that the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, would come to us and bring us the truth. This would not only continue to spread God’s word but continue Jesus’ ministry and mission as well. |
